Purpose of role

We are currently recruiting for a Resource Manager to join our UK Banking & Finance team. The role will be based in London but will be working across our UK offices. The firm has undertaken considerable growth and so has recognized the fundamental need to professionalize the way we allocate work and resources. This is the only role of its kind at Dentons and is an exciting opportunity for a driven and experienced Resource Manager to be part of our strategic change. The Resource Manager will report to the Divisional Practice Manager.

  • Lead and facilitate transaction related performance feedback with Partners and Associates
  • Optimise the allocation of work and the deployment of staff based on projected workflows, utilisation and skills
  • Proactive management of the current work allocation tools, ensuring they are maintained and accurate
  • Act as an 'early warning sign' for potential Associate issues around engagement or performance – escalating   these to the Divisional Practice Manager
  • Ensure matters are appropriately staffed in an efficient manner through effective allocation of work from Trainee through to Partner level
  • Monitor current and anticipated activity levels, capacity and matter staffing; and help smooth utilisation levels. 
  • Work with Associates to help ensure work is aligned to individual Associate development needs and interests where possible. 
  • Maintain clear, effective lines of communication, keeping all stakeholders informed on initiatives, developments, business issues, and other critical topics.
  • Assist with Recruitment initiatives as and when required. 
  • Oversee analysis of business forecasting e.g. chargeable hours, utilisation, and proactively drive resourcing decisions
  • Provide weekly reporting to the Divisional Practice Manager on forecasted activity
  • Act as a first line defence on ensuring fee earners are following the firm Time recording policy
  • Understand and maintain knowledge of individual skills, development needs, experiences and personal / professional aspirations and apply this knowledge in resourcing decisions
  • Provide forecast and actual utilisation and availability reports and other management information, as required
  • Monitor chargeable hours by individual / grade / office and highlight potential shortfalls / over-utilisation to the practice group and business management 
  • Active chasing of fee earner missing time daily and escalating as and when necessary to PGL and Fee Earners
  • Ensure under-utilized resources are flagged as available for resourcing
  • Highlighting issues at both Partner and Fee Earner levels that may be impacting the allocation of resources
  • Challenging fee earners when actual hours are consistently below forecasted hours



Required experience, skills and attributes
  • Prior experience in work allocation or resource management, ideally within a large professional services or corporate environment ideally in Banking
  • Strong commercial and business awareness
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholdersStrong client focus
  • Proactive and adaptable, able to work on own initiative
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Experience working with resource management software
