The department

This is a great opportunity to join our Proposals & Opportunities team in the UKIME region. Our Proposals & Opportunities team is made up of specialists who are based in multiple office locations and work across the business.

Purpose of role

The Proposals Manager is a specialist within the Proposals & Opportunities team (the team). The team focuses on project managing and delivering UKIME regional proposals and opportunities – and global proposals and opportunities where required and where capacity allows – with the ultimate objectives of winning new business, generating tangible revenue, and demonstrating adherence to best practices at all times.

The proposals and opportunities allocated to the Proposals Manager will generally consist of panels with varying degrees of complexity. This challenging and interesting role will require a balance of both advisory and hands-on skills. In particular, the Proposals Manager will be required to work in a highly collaborative way with other members of the team – and members of the wider Clients & Markets team – in varying capacities, including having responsibility for overseeing the outputs of the Proposals Executive and Researcher & Content Writer in the team on proposals and opportunities on which they are engaged.

In addition, the Proposals Manager will play a key role in working alongside the Head of Proposals & Opportunities to further develop Dentons' established best practice proposals toolkit and support projects that further upgrade the client-facing services provided by the team to the business as a regional Centre of Excellence.

This role may be aligned to specific sectors and key clients with flexibility as required.

Responsibilities

Team: 5%

  • Overseeing outputs delegated to the Proposals Executive in the team on proposals and opportunities on which they are engaged; and
  • Overseeing ad hoc assignments delegated to the Researcher & Content Writer and specialists in our Accounts, Creative, IT, and Secretarial Services teams.

Proposals and opportunities: 90%

  • Leading and advising – end to end and with full ownership and accountability for delivering – allocated proposals and opportunities, including advising on pipeline preparation, ensuring qualification and scoping exercises take place, developing differentiated value propositions, challenging partners / the business on approaches, coaching on presentations, conducting detailed client feedback interviews and inputting into client onboarding plans;
  • Working alongside the Head of Proposals & Opportunities on identified proposals and opportunities;
  • Advising – on an ad hoc basis and at key stages – on other important proposals and opportunities arising within the business, working collaboratively with members of the wider Marketing & Business Development team;
  • Championing and demonstrating adherence to best practices on allocated proposals and opportunities at all stages of processes and at all times;
  • Implementing high quality and evidencing an ability to think differently with energy, creativity, and bold ideas;
  • Working with pricing specialists in the Accounts team on developing solid fee proposals and innovative alternative fee arrangements for proposals and opportunities;
  • Working with specialists in the Creative, IT, and Secretarial Services teams on designing, laying out, and formatting materials for proposals and opportunities; and
  • Keeping up-to-date with market best practices and relevant sector and key client developments in relation to proposals and opportunities.

Toolkit initiatives and projects: 5%

  • Working alongside the Head of Proposals & Opportunities and other members of the team to further develop Dentons' established best practice proposals toolkit;
  • Working with the Creative, IT, and Secretarial Services teams to develop templates; and
  • Working alongside the Head of Proposals & Opportunities and other members of the team to support projects that further upgrade the client-facing services provided by the team to the business (regional Centre of Excellence).
Required experience, skills and attributes
  • Experience in independently leading proposals and opportunities of varying degrees of complexity and demonstrating strong specialist, innovative and creative capabilities at all stages of processes;
  • Experience gained within international organizations, preferably professional/legal services environments;
  • Developed advisory skills with an ability to challenge partners / the business and always see things from the client's perspective;
  • Advanced project management and content development skills with strong attention to detail are essential;  
  • Advanced IT/formatting skills are essential with a keen interest in design desirable;
  • Advanced team working skills within high-performing teams/matrix structures; and 
  • Degree educated.
