The department

Our Milton Keynes real estate team offers a complete range of real estate services to clients, from development, joint ventures, structured investments, acquisitions and disposals, landlord and tenant, retail and real estate finance to construction and property litigation. We work seamlessly with our colleagues in London, Edinburgh and Glasgow to provide a truly UK-wide, cost-effective service to our clients.

Our real estate department acts for some of the highest profile, sophisticated and demanding clients who expect high quality advice and service. The global expansion of our firm over recent years has broadened the international angle to our real estate practice.

Purpose of role

Our Milton Keynes Real Estate team is looking for a Senior Associate with excellent Commercial Development and Infrastructure Project Experience.  Our Milton Keynes office pioneered flexible and remote working well before it became the industry norm, candidates would benefit from a mature remote supervision, support and collaboration structure should they wish to.

We focus on candidates demonstrating the required experience and competencies not their geographic location.

The team works on a wide variety of real estate transactions, both domestic UK transactions and supporting activities of the firm's global clients. We deliver a client-focused responsive service for blue chip clients who expect the highest quality, great value and the delivery of excellent work. They, and we, expect our lawyers to be specialists in their sectors, and to be pro-active and commercially minded.

Work highlights for the Milton Keynes team include:

  • Advising Network Rail on a range of headline-making rail, infrastructure and commercial development projects and the management of their portfolio across the UK.
  • Advising household name retailers including Sainsbury's, Marks and Spencer and John Lewis on the management of their portfolios.
  • Acting for most of the UK banks, and may other funding parties, on several high-profile real estate funding transactions.
  • Acting for a Developer on a large regeneration project in London to build a new Football Stadium, Hotel and approximately 100 high-end apartments.
  • Acting for a Middle Eastern investor on its sale of a trophy investment site in Pimlico, London for c. £70m.
  • Acting for an Islamic Bank in the grant of a sharia compliant Ijara facility to a customer of the Bank seeking to purchase a property for £20m.
  • Acting for a large hotel owner in the listing of a portfolio of English and Scottish hotels and apart-hotels on the Singapore Stock Exchange.
  • Acting for Administrators on a large pub-sector administration affecting multiple sites.

Commercial Development and Infrastructure Projects.

  • Working with a project team of junior associates, paralegals and construction and planning colleagues to deliver nationally significant rail and infrastructure projects for Network Rail.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial real estate documents including sale/purchase contracts, development agreements, infrastructure framework agreements, agreements for lease and option and promotion agreements.
  • Dealing with the usual real estate due diligence requirements such as the preparation/review of certificates/reports on title.
  • Carrying out asset management and portfolio management type work and providing general landlord/tenant leasing advice.
